Charles Ambry Gross
September 26, 1940 - February 13, 2022
Charles Ambry (Pete) Gross, 81, was born on September 26, 1940 in Falmouth, KY, to the late Willie and Lorraine (Allen) Gross. The Lord called him home on Sunday, February 13, 2022 at 1:30PM at the Harrison Memorial Hospital in Cynthiana, KY with all his children and grandchildren surrounding him. He is survived by his 9 children: Carl (Kay) Purnell, Tina (Keith) Lewis, Charles (Dina) Gross, John (Tania) Gross, Samuel Gross, Mary Gross, Mark (Evelyn) Gross, Wilbur (Joy) Gross and Valarita (Pastor Kurt) Raglin; 2 brothers: Pastor Melvin (Marcia) Gross, Joe (Ruth Ann) Gross and 1 sister Ann (Lavon) Paige. Pete attended Banneker High School and he worked many jobs: starting at Frisch’s Big Boy, the Slaughter House on Pearl Street, Kawneer, the City of Cynthiana, Laddish, E.T.N Axal, and finally retiring from Grede Perm Cast. He accepted Christ at an early age. He was very faithful, dedicated, and a very dependable member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church, the Methodist Men, and a Trustee of the church until his health prevented him from doing so. He was the best Fish Fryer in Cynthiana, the only man who could hold fire in his hands and stick his hands down in hot grease. He whistled so loud from 3 blocks away, you could hear him (that was a warning to his children to get home because he was coming). He loved his coffee (drinking it all day) and loved people. To know him was to love him and he was known and loved by many. He was a man of many titles…a father, brother, grandfather, uncle, cousin, advisor, and a friend. He loved his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, whole family and friends, but most of all he loved the Lord more. Pete is proceeded in death by his late wife Metta (Purnell) Gross; son Willie Gross; second wife Vivian (Powell) Gross; 3 grandsons: Jerome Gross, Marcus Gross, and Erik Gross; father Willie Gross; mother Lorraine (Allen) Gross; 2 brothers: Duke Gross and Johnny Gross; sister Mary Kay Miles; and a special niece Toy Lynn. In addition to his children, Pete is survived by his 20 grandchildren: LeShae Gross, Tiffany Gross, Elizabeth Gross, Metta Gross, Dayshona Raglin, Vincent Raglin, Matthew (Danielle) Gross, Michael Stone, Tawny Gross, Whitney Gross, Jazlynn (Jerimiah) Burden, LeRoyne Switzer-Gross, JR Bell, Mark Young-Gross, Kelly (Joel) Catlett, Lyndsay Dunlap, Ezekiel Gross, Kolby Gross, Sydney Gross, and McKinley Gross;16 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, 2 special friends David Malone and Adam Carter, and all of Cynthiana. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. at Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Cynthiana. Burial will follow in the Cherry Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers for the service will be Robert Walker, JR Bell, Michael Stone, Peter Williams, Peanut Gross, Jerimiah Burden, Mark Ridley, and Alan Commodore. Honorary Pallbearers will be Eric Reed, Derrick Conner, Tony Lewis, Tony Kearns, and the Methodist Men of Ebenezer UMC. The visitation will be held from 12-2:00 at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Ebenezer Methodist Men or the Victory Baptist Church. Online condolences may be sent to www.woodheadfuneralhome.com
