Mildred Field Jones

January 12, 1915 - January 31, 2010

Mildred Field Jones of Falmouth, Ky., died Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010, at St. Elizabeth Hospital East in Fort Thomas. She was 95 years old. Born Mildred Lenora Field, she was the daughter of Cleveland Grover Field and Carrie Mains Field of Falmouth. Mrs. Jones was the sister to Wilson Hamilton, Ruby Field Simpson and Alma Field Johnting. She graduated from Falmouth High School on May 18, 1934. She married Earl Jones in July 6, 1947, after his return from the serving on both the African and European continents during World War II. Together, they lived and worked on the Field family tobacco farm, and Mrs. Jones also was a homemaker. Mr. Jones preceded Mrs. Jones in death in 1975, and afterward, Mrs. Jones dedicated her life to caring for her parents. In addition to her parents, husband, sisters and brother, she was preceded in death by two nieces: Doris Johnting Light and Carol Frances Jackson. Mrs. Jones lived in Falmouth until 1997, until she lost her home in the devastating flood that impacted the entire town. In 1997, she moved to Covington, Ky., where she lived until her death. She was a member of the Falmouth Christian Church. Known as “Aunt Dee” to her nieces and nephews, Mrs. Jones was an excellent cook. She always had a plate of peanut butter fudge or sugar cookies ready for her siblings’ children when they came to visit. This was true up until the middle of 2009. Mrs. Jones is survived by her nieces, Joyce (Charles) Simpson Layton of Edgewood, Ky., and Margie Lynn (James) Hamilton Hawtrey of Iowa City, Iowa, and nephew; Robert (Liz) Johnting of North Myrtle Beach, N.C.; and numerous great- and great-great nieces and nephews. They will all fondly remember their special moments share with Aunt Dee -- walks along the country road, picking wild blackberries and raspberries, and shucking corn and breaking beans on the front porch of the family country home, listening to their aunt talking about her youth. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at Woodhead Funeral Home, 310 W. Shelby St., Falmouth, with funeral services at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 6. Graveside services at Riverside Cemetery in Falmouth will follow immediately. Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth is serving the family. Memorials are suggested to Oakland Christian Church, 149 Oakland Church Road, Falmouth, KY 41040 or Falmouth Christian Church, 303 W. Shelby Street, Falmouth, KY 41040 or the charity of choice.
