Helen Jean Whitaker

Helen Jean Billiter Whitaker, 76, of Berry, KY, passed away on Monday, October 11, 2021 at her home. Born on May 25, 1945 in Grant County, KY, she was a daughter of the late Carl and Goldie Kidwell Billiter. Helen worked at Bullard for 14 years, and in the evenings after work, she served as a waitress at Biancke’s Restaurant in Cynthiana. As a young adult, she loved to roller skate at Charles’ Roller Rink, and she enjoyed teaching others. Never shying away from a challenge, she played basketball and softball. Williamstown Lake was her favorite spot to swim. She married Orla Whitaker, and her dear husband preceded her in death on September 24, 2018. Helen loved her family and friends, and her quick wit and sense of humor made time spent with her so memorable. Later in life with mobility challenges, she made the most of every day with her optimism, watching television, and working her word search puzzle books. She always found a reason to smile. She is survived by three children: Patricia Diane (John) Fisher of Goshen, OH, Teresa Lynn (Dwayne) Tumey and Billy Ray Whitaker, both of Berry; seven grandchildren blessed to have her as their Mamaw: McKindree (Teresa) Perrin, Brittany (Nathan) Balk, Jarrod Garrison, Justin Cole, Kristyn (Nick) Tringelof, Dustyn Fisher, and Austin Tumey; eleven great grandchildren: Braxton, Freya, Kelsey, Kayla, Jamie, Tanum, Alex, Colton, Jayden, Brentley, and Keryssa; three great great grandchildren: Roman, Aryreh, and Brayella; one sister, Judy Harper; one brother, Norman (Lucille) Billiter; and a host of extended family and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her great great grandson Bryson, and two sisters: Dorothy Marksberry and Geraldine Spaulding. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at Woodhead Funeral Home, Berry, with Marty Ritchie officiating. The visitation will be from 11-1 pm on Thursday preceding the service. Interment will take place in the Pythian Grove Cemetery, Berry.
