Joe Paul Delaney

Joe Paul Delaney, 85, of Falmouth, KY, passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2022, at St. Joseph Hospice in Lexington, KY. Born on November 30, 1936, in Pendleton County, KY, he was a son of the late John Franklin and Florine Velma Daugherty Delaney. On June 24, 1961, he married Janet Yelton Delaney, and together they lived their faith, raising four children, cherishing eight grandchildren and one great grandchild, celebrating the good times, and weathering life’s storms, thankful for the company of their family and friends as companions on their journey. For many years Joe Paul worked at the former Daugherty Lumber Company before going into business for himself. He and Larry Ritter later owned and operated the Delaney and Ritter Lumber Company until his retirement. Joe Paul faithfully served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He was a lifelong member of St. Francis Xavier Church in Falmouth, where he was active in managing the church hall and many church activities including the annual Lenten Fish Fry, festivals, meals, and parish celebrations. Near and dear to his heart was the mission of the Landen Joseph Spence Foundation, and he joined his family devoting his time to supporting this organization, wherever his help was needed. Blessed with 61 years of marriage, he is survived by his wife Janet; three daughters: Kim (Dennis) Jenkins and Paula (Allen) Spence, both of Falmouth, KY, and Amy (Kevin) Schadler of California, KY; six grandchildren: Brian (Megan) Jenkins, Sarah (Marcus) Jarvis, Maddie Jo Schadler, Kaden Schadler, Mynor Spence, and Rylee Spence; one great grandson, Wesley Jenkins; two sisters: Geneva Delaney Habermehl of Falmouth, KY and Patricia Delaney Sellers of Vicksburg, MI; and a host of extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Stephen Allen Delaney (Aug. 28, 1989); two grandsons: Landen Joseph Spence (Nov. 2, 2003) and Garrett Stephen Spence (April 8, 2015); five sisters: Mary Catherine Hetterman, Eleanor Gillespie, Dorothy Hesler, Alma Frances Crawford and Joan Faulkner; and three brothers: John E. Delaney, Frank Delaney, and George Thomas “Tommy” Delaney. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Thursday, August 18, 2022, at St. Francis Xavier Church, 202 Second Street, Falmouth, KY 41040, with Fr. Britton Hennessey officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Dennis Jenkins, Allen Spence, Kevin Schadler, Brian Jenkins, Kaden Schadler, Marcus Jarvis, James M. Crawford, and Jerry Prater. The honorary pallbearer will be Larry Vanlandingham. The visitation will be from 3-7 pm on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at St. Francis Xavier Church. Interment with full military honors by the Hardin-Browning Post #109 will take place in the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Falmouth.
