Gary William Thompson

July 8, 1950 - January 26, 2022

Gary William Thompson, 71, of Butler, KY, passed away on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at his home after a valiant battle with leukemia. Born on July 8, 1950 in Pendleton County, KY, he was the son of the late William Giltner and Oda Mae Sharp Thompson. Gary was a 1968 graduate of Pendleton County High School. For 38 years, he worked as a Communications Technician and Engineering Assistant with ATT. He was a respected carpenter and contractor, building 8 houses in his lifetime, each of which reflected his many talents and ingenuity. Gary was a member of the Plum Creek Christian Church. He enjoyed outreach mission trips to Honduras, Guatemala, and Africa. On October 17, 1997, he married Marsha Miller Thompson, and together they made the most of each day, especially enjoying their scenic route “day drives,” trips to Gatlingburg, TN, Amish Country, wintering in Sanibel, FL with friends, and the gift of having shared memories from every state in the union. At the center of his life was his faith and his family. In addition to his wife of 24 years, best friend, and stalwart caregiver, Marsha, he is survived by two daughters: Lisa Thompson (Philip) Kapusta of Fredericksburg, VA, and Amber Thompson Rose of Florence, KY; two step-sons: Kevin (DeDe) McNeal of Southgate, KY, and Brock (Nickie) McNeal of West Unity, OH; 7 grandchildren: Michael Rose , Max Colvil, Mackenzie Colvil, Taylor Baker, Chase Williams, Adley McNeal, and Brody McNeal; his sister, Marilyn (Stephen) Rigsby of Butler, KY; several nieces, nephews and a host of extended family and friends. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Janice Gail Thompson in 1963. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, January 29, 2022, at Plum Creek Christian Church, 961 Nagel Road, Butler, KY 41006, with Tom Schneller officiating. The visitation will be from 10-2 pm on Saturday preceding his service. Interment will take place in the Lenoxburg Cemetery, Bracken County. Memorials are suggested to Disciple Makers: 4393 Boron Drive, Latonia, KY 41015, Plum Creek Christian Church or Samaritan’s Purse: P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607. Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth, is caring for the family.
