Helen Laverne Huffman

September 23, 1940 - July 21, 2021

Helen Laverne Huffman, 80, of Lexington, KY, formerly of Berry, passed away on Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at Bourbon Heights in Paris. Born on September 23, 1940 in Harrison County, KY, she was a daughter of the late Ash and Evelyn (Porter) Huffman. For over 25 years, Helen managed Tommy’s Drive-In in Lexington. Every weekend, she had her bags packed and ready to return to Berry to help her brothers on the farm, where she cooked, cleaned, and took care of the laundry. Helen loved her family, and she always managed to find ways to treat her nieces and nephews. Formerly, she worked at the University of Kentucky’s K-Lair in Lexington as a cook. She was a member of the Riverview Baptist Church in Durbintown. For the last 8 ½ years, Helen has been a resident at Bourbon Heights. Her family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the care and support from the staff. They took amazing care of the woman who devoted her life to caring for the Huffman family. She is survived by her sister and caregiver, Bonnie Huffman (Noble Lee) Smith of Paris; two brothers: Jimmy and Ronnie “Buck” Huffman, both of Berry, KY; seven nieces and nephews: Fay Mann, Lisa (Nate) Allison, Connie Smith-Monahan, Carl (Amanda) Porter, Ginny Huffman, Charles Huffman and Emily Alcorn; five great nieces and nephews: Lori Beaton (James Bales), Nobella Smith-Monahan (Matt Evans), Megan (Paul) Deckard, Eli Huffman, and Madison Milner; and four great great nieces and nephews: Jonathon & Kendall Bales and RaeAnn & Travis Porter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Janice Huffman; five brothers: Ray Porter, Gene Huffman, Billy Huffman, Shearl “Toe” Huffman, and Donnie Huffman; four nephews: John Lee Smith, Ashley Huffman, Bradley Huffman, and Ethan Huffman. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, July 24, 2021, at Woodhead Funeral Home, Berry. The visitation will be from 12-1 pm on Saturday preceding the service. Interment will take place in the Pythian Grove Cemetery, Berry. Memorials are suggested to Shriner’s Hospital for Children: P.O. Box 863765, Orlando, FL 32886.
