Raymond Leon "P. John" Ramsey

April 20, 1940 - December 12, 2021

Raymond Leon “P. John” Ramsey, 81, of Falmouth, KY, passed away peacefully after a long life filled with love, experiences, and adventures on Sunday, December 12, 2021. Born in Bracken County on April 20, 1940, he was the youngest child of the late Virgil and Nicey Teegarden Ramsey. On December 16, 1977, he married Clarletta Wallace Ramsey, and together they began life on their farm in the Milford/Neave community. A lifelong Bracken County farmer, Raymond made the most of every day, and he always managed to have fun. He milked cows as long as his children were home to help, but enjoyed working in tobacco the best. After a hard day’s work, relaxing in his recliner, he watched every episode of “Gunsmoke” and “Bonanza” ever filmed. In addition to his parents, Raymond grieved the loss of many he loved including his brothers: Earl “Jr.” Ramsey, Harry “Buck” Ramsey, and Eugene “Pete” Ramsey; and his sisters: Dorothy “Dot” Clifford, Kathleen “Kitty” Barnard, Nancy “Nanny” Jenkins, and Edna Lou Ramsey. Raymond loved to travel and had been fortunate to visit many places in his lifetime including Hawaii, Alaska, the Virgin Islands, Florida, New York, and Canada. He always looked forward to a good meal with family and friends, whether that be at home, or at one his favorite restaurants: Cracker Barrel, Biancke’s, or BB’s Truck Stop in Maysville, where he never left without a hamburger. In addition to his wife and best friend of 43 years Clarletta, he is survived by his daughter, Tammy (Shelley) Ramsey; his son, Darrin (Connie) Ramsey; his step-daughters: Carla (Joe) Hamilton, all of Brooksville, KY and Chandra “Sis” Welte of Dry Ridge, KY; 6 grandchildren: Daniel (Amber) Hamilton, Wade (Mary) Ramsey, Justin Ramsey, Dwayne (Courtney) Hamilton, Caitlin Welte, and Olivia Welte; 4 great grandchildren: Sawyer, Jocelyn, and Logan Ramsey and Cashton Hamilton; one brother, Melvin “Mug” (Hazel) Ramsey of Falmouth, KY; one sister, Geraldine “Gerby” Cummins of Georgetown, OH; and a host of extended family and friends, who will remember stories about him for generations to come. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth, with Bro. John Byard and Gary Figgins officiating. The visitation will be from 4-8 pm on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at the funeral home. Interment will take place in the Neave Cemetery, Bracken County. Memorials are suggested to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital: 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
