James Wesly "Joe" Gross

James Wesly ”Joe” Gross, 84, of Cynthiana, KY, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at Harrison Memorial Hospital. Born on September 30, 1939, in Falmouth, KY, he was a son of the late Willie and Lorraine Gross. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Ella Mae Patterson Gross; three brothers: Willie “Duke” Gross, Charles “Pete” Gross, and John “Johnny” Gross; and two sisters: Mary Kay Gross Myles and Ann L. Gross Page. Joe retired from Grede in Cynthiana, after decades of faithful service. In 2004, he joined Kentucky’s Best for 14 years. Anchored in his faith and the unconditional love of his family, Joe found peace in his life through music, playing the harmonica and singing with countless groups including the acclaimed Gross Brothers. His love of music was contagious, and even if you couldn’t carry a tune or had never tried to sing, just a little time with Joe could have you making a” joyful noise,” and appreciating this powerful way to pray. Joe loved his family who brightened each and every day and cheering the University of Louisville Cardinals to victory. Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife Ruth Ann Cummins Allen Gross, he is survived by his daughter Veronica Gross of Cynthiana, KY; two step-daughters: Shannon Davis (Tyrone) of Georgetown, KY and Crissy Allen of Lexington, KY; one brother Rev. Melvin Gross (Marsha); several beloved grandchildren and step-grandchildren; and precious step great grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Friday, July 26, 2024, at St. James A.M.E Church in Cynthiana with Rev. Revonda Bright officiating and Rev. Antonia Stuckey sharing the eulogy. Special music will be shared by Rev. Melvin Gross, Rev. Tony Weathers and First Lady Maria Weathers. Serving as pallbearers will be Bubby Gross, Mark Gross, Elijah Gross, Isaiah Hinton, Mark Ridley and Trey Allen. The honorary pallbearer will be Wesly Gross. Visitation will be held from 10-12 noon on Friday preceding the service at his church. Interment will take place in the Cherry Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana. Woodhead Funeral Home is caring for the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Woodhead Funeral Home to help with expenses.
