Joanna Sharp Layton

Joanna Sharp Layton, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished member of the Taylor Mill, Kentucky community, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2024, at the age of 85. Her passing occurred at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Edgewood, Kentucky. Joanna was born on December 13, 1938, in Pendleton County, Kentucky, to the late Joseph and Katherin Colvin Sharp. She attended Butler High School and graduated with a keen mind and a warm heart. Following her education, Joanna embarked on a dedicated career within the Pendleton County Schools, where she served as a school secretary and later as the county food service manager. Her commitment to education and nourishing the minds and bodies of students was unwavering. Later, Joanna continued her career at Holmes High School in Covington, Kentucky, as the Food Service Manager, where she left an indelible mark on both staff and students alike. She was proud to have earned the designation of Kentucky Colonel. In 1959, Joanna married the love of her life, Paul Robert Layton of Cedarville, New Jersey. Together, they shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Paul survives Joanna and mourns her passing deeply. Joanna was renowned for her culinary skills, with her yeast rolls and country green beans becoming legendary among family and friends. Her kitchen was a place of warmth, comfort, and joy, where countless memories were made and shared. Joanna leaves behind a legacy of love and family. She is survived by her devoted sons, Paul Douglas (Becky) Layton of Ruskin, Florida, and Robert Gregory (Kathy) Layton of Florence, Kentucky, along with her beloved daughter, Sharon Kathleen (Kevin) Stanfield of Erlanger, Kentucky. Joanna was the loving grandmother of Christina Layton Lee, Laura Layton Pfeiffer, Alistair Layton, Amy Layton Tomblin, Grant Stanfield, Joanna Stanfield, and Ashley Layton. Additionally, she leaves behind five adored great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her dear brother, Phillip (Ann) Sharp, her sister, Sandra (Bruce) Milburn, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, all of whom will cherish her memory forever. Joanna's kindness, generosity, and unwavering love touched the lives of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her family, friends, and community. A celebration of Joanna's life will be held at Woodhead Funeral Home in Falmouth, Kentucky on Friday, April 12, 2024, at 1:00 PM. The family will receive family and friends beginning at 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will immediately follow the funeral service at Mt. Vernon Cemetery, McKinneysburg, Kentucky. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Falmouth United Methodist Church General Fund, in honor of Joanna's memory.
